Investigators seeking the source of "ricin" detected a few weeks ago in a U.S. Senate office building suspect that the positive test may have been caused by paper by-products, NOT the deadly poison! Non-toxic by-products of the castor bean plant ? the raw material for ricin ? are sometimes used in making paper.

Because tests performed on congressional mail are highly sensitive, they may have picked up minute traces of products derived from the castor plant ? not actual ricin...
