The Howard government are either asleep at the wheel on the greenhouse issue or have been totally seduced by the support of oil and energy companies. It is a known fact that they have conducted secret meetings ( search the web) to derail initiatives by small entrepreneurs to start green energy projects, while telling the public that they are ready to support alternative fuels. They placed a tariff on biodiesel which effectively killed it. We lag behind even small countries (Portugal and Spain) on new energy ideas, in our race to sell more coal. We cannot afford to allow any government to be this dishonest. There is new money to be made from 21st century energy ideas. We are lucky to have such enormous energy reserves and if we want to keep selling coal we should at least put a substantial part of the profits into new energy.
